Farolitos of Christmas. Rudolpho, Anaya.
Luz is a young girl whose father, wounded in World War II, hasn't returned yet. Her sick grandfather is too weak to cut the logs for the traditional luminarias (small bonfires), so Luz and her friend Reina find a way to make farolitos (lit candles in paper bags) to light the way for the Christmas pilgrims. The Spanish words are part of the narrative and are explained by a glossary at the back. Language: English with Spanish terms.
